From Lomé to Tokyo, the Toyota Tsusho CFAO African Art Award continues its international journey

Presented first at Palais de Lomé in Togo, the exhibition now travels to Japan, where the works of the five laureates – Moffat Takadiwa, Gosette Lubondo, Unathi Mkonto, Katlego C.L. Twala and Tizta Berhanu – of the first Toyota Tsusho CFAO African Art Award will be shown at space Un Tokyo from 23 to 31 October, followed by GINZA TSUTAYA BOOKS in Chuo-ku from 30 October to 3 November. The exhibition will then continue its international journey to the Palais de Tokyo in Paris in April 2027.

The Exhibition will feature works by five award recipients from Zimbabwe, South Africa, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Botswana, and Ethiopia, offering visitors an opportunity to experience the diversity, depth, and appeal of contemporary African art through their works.

The Award is a cultural and artistic initiative launched by Toyota Tsusho and CFAO in August 2025 to extend this legacy into the fields of culture and the arts. Believing that the empowerment of young people is essential to Africa’s sustainable social development, the initiative aims to help develop the next generation of talent and support the growth of local communities by discovering and supporting emerging African artists.
