Although Africa is rich in renewable energy sources such as solar, hydro, wind, geothermal. Increasing renewable energy capacity and contributing to the energy mix is one of the great challenges in Africa.

In some cases, however, their share of the renewable energy is increasing faster there than those in other continents. In Kenya, for example, more than 80% of electricity production comes frome renewable energy sources.
